Facilyta – Study in Spain

Complete Guide to Studying in Spain

Spain is one of Europe's most attractive academic destinations: prestigious public and private universities, competitive cost of living, favorable climate and a culture open to students from around the world. However, the path from your home country to confirmed enrollment involves a sequence of decisions and procedures best planned in advance. In this guide we bring together the essentials every international student should know: academic and language requirements, funding options, choice of city and university, and prior legal steps such as the student visa and NIE. At Facilyta we have spent years supporting students from more than forty nationalities in access processes for bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs. We know every profile is different —international baccalaureate, PCE, degree recognition, change of studies— and therefore offer a free strategic assessment before you commit. If you are looking for a university experience in Spanish or English, with real support in administration and compliance, this guide is your starting point. Below we go deeper into requirements, cities, costs and paperwork so you can make informed decisions.

Requirements to study in Spain

Requirements vary by level of study and nationality. For bachelor's access you usually need to recognize or validate secondary education, pass the Specific Competency Test (PCE) or prove equivalencies according to your country.

For master's and postgraduate programs, equivalent university degree, language certificate —Spanish or English depending on the program— and often a student visa and health insurance for stays over ninety days are required.

Recommended university cities

Madrid and Barcelona concentrate the largest academic and job offer; Valencia, Seville and Granada offer excellent quality of life and more affordable costs. The choice depends on your degree, budget and language preference.

In our cities guide we analyze the advantages of each destination to help you decide. Facilyta works with universities nationwide and knows admission processes in each autonomous community.

Cost of living and scholarships

Monthly cost for a student in Spain ranges between six hundred and twelve hundred euros depending on the city, including housing, food and transport. Public university fees are notably lower than in other European countries.

Scholarships exist from the Ministry, regional governments and universities themselves, plus aid for international students. We guide you on calls and deadlines according to your academic profile.

Prior steps: visa and NIE

Before traveling, non-EU students must obtain the student visa at the relevant consulate. After arrival they process the NIE, registration and, where applicable, the student residence card.

Facilyta coordinates both processes integrally so you do not lose time between procedures. See our specific pages on student visa and NIE, or request a personalized assessment.
